Black band, three-quarter view

Best overall

CIRQA is the most capable subscription-free screenless band for structured training, especially when Garmin already owns part of your data history. Its heart-rate performance is convincing in steady-state exercise and improves on the upper arm during intervals. The compromise is not missing data—it is presentation. Garmin Connect exposes a huge amount of useful information but feels less coherent than WHOOP, while the 27 mm pod can overhang a small wrist.

Editor score9.1/10

Best overall. Best for structured training and garmin users. Main trade-off: 27 mm body is wider than fitbit air.

01

Design, comfort and controls

CIRQA uses a 27 mm-wide fabric band and removable sensor pod. At roughly 21 g it is light, but its long footprint matters more than weight: reviewers found it comfortable on average wrists, while smaller wrists can lose even sensor contact as the pod bridges the wrist curve. Unlike most rivals, a physical button can launch one user-selected activity without reaching for the phone. Garmin also sells an upper-arm band, which is the better position for intervals and vigorous arm movement.

02

Health and recovery tracking

The band brings familiar Garmin signals—continuous heart rate, HRV Status, Body Battery, stress, Pulse Ox, respiration, sleep score and Training Readiness—into a passive 24/7 form. The value is strongest when long-term Garmin history already exists. Pulse Ox is optional because it adds power demand. Battery Saver is not a practical everyday setting: Garmin documents that it disables heart rate, activity detection and Pulse Ox, which also removes sleep, stress, VO₂ max and intensity-minute calculations.

03

Workout and heart-rate accuracy

Across professional testing, steady running, cycling, yoga and gym circuits generally tracked within a few beats of reference devices. The5KRunner reported wrist failures during fast intervals and open-water swimming, but moving CIRQA to the biceps brought repeat intervals within roughly half a beat of three references. A separate 5K comparison found plausible heart-rate data but an overestimated GPS route because CIRQA used the reviewer’s phone. Treat connected GPS accuracy as a phone result, not a CIRQA sensor result.

04

Sleep and daily activity

Reviewers generally found sleep and wake times credible, and Garmin’s overnight report is among the deepest in this category. Step testing has been broadly reasonable, but no wrist tracker is immune to false movement. Automatic activities begin after a configurable duration and can be trimmed in Connect; however, editing time cannot recreate heart-rate samples that were never collected before detection. For precise workouts, start manually with the button or app.

05

Battery and charging

Garmin claims up to 10 days and 5 ATM water resistance. Independent reports ranged from an easy week with daily sport to ten days with about 20% remaining. Continuous Bluetooth, connected GPS, workout time and Pulse Ox change the result. One reviewer measured about an hour from 5% to full. Charging requires Garmin’s cable and the band must be removed, so it cannot match WHOOP’s wear-while-charging continuity.

06

Ownership and privacy

Core Garmin Connect health, sleep and training functions work without a subscription. Connect+ is optional and adds selected coaching and AI features; it should not be confused with the required WHOOP model. Garmin supports major health and activity integrations, but exact fields vary by phone platform and partner. Buyers who care about raw analysis should confirm the current export path for FIT files and account-level data before purchase.

Companion app review

Garmin Connect

Powerful and customizable, but built like an athlete database rather than a calm daily coach.

Garmin Connect supports Apple Health, Health Connect and Strava-style partner syncing, while CIRQA can broadcast heart rate to compatible Garmin equipment.

9.2/10
app score

Strengths

  • Extensive training history and trends
  • Customizable home screen and glances
  • Strong Garmin ecosystem merging
  • FIT activity data and broad partner support

Weaknesses

  • New users can find the hierarchy confusing
  • Owner reports mention occasional stalled sync
  • Connect+ AI is less conversational than WHOOP coaching
  • Multiple primary-device settings require attention
Reddit & owner consensus

What owners repeatedly mention

  • 01

Owners praise the comfort and ability to swap between CIRQA and a Garmin watch without losing the daily picture.

  • 02

Recurring complaints concern force-closing Connect to restore sync, primary-wearable conflicts and early firmware/alarm bugs.

  • 03

Several former WHOOP users love the hardware but call Connect less intuitive; longtime Garmin users often disagree because the home screen is customizable.

  • 04

Early reports are unusually mixed, so firmware date and phone platform should be recorded in any future hands-on test.

Owner forums overrepresent troubleshooting and unusually strong opinions. These themes help identify what to test; they do not establish prevalence.
