Google Health replaces the old Fitbit app experience with four main areas—Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health—and adds an optional Gemini-powered coach for subscribers.

The cleanest fit for passive tracking and the easiest app for a new user to understand. Core health, readiness and cardio-load data remain useful without Premium; personalized coaching is the subscription proposition.

Daily use

Interface, insight and coaching

What it feels like

The four-tab structure is simpler than Garmin Connect and Zepp. A customizable Today screen prevents the dashboard from becoming a wall of metrics. Fitbit Air has no display, so the app is also the only detailed interface for the device.

Sleep and readiness

Sleep Score, stages and readiness are understandable without much configuration. The value is in consistent personal trends. Edited sleep logs may cause recalculation, and wrist-derived stages or recovery estimates should not be treated as clinical measurements.

Fitness and coaching

Cardio Load uses heart-rate-based training impulse and builds a weekly target after enough baseline wear. The optional coach can adjust plans and answer questions, but Google explicitly positions it as general guidance rather than medical advice.

Data ownership

Integrations and export

Google Health can connect with Strava and use Apple Health or Android Health Connect for selected data flows. Individual GPS workouts can be exported as TCX, and users can download a broader archive through Google’s data-export controls.

Cost and control

Subscription and privacy

A Google Account is required. Google states that Google Health and wellness data is kept separate from Google Ads and is not used for advertising. Users can review, download and delete health data. Premium coaching uses selected health data for personalization and has separate controls.

  • Strong core sleep and passive-health presentation
  • Readiness and cardio load work without Premium
  • Account download and deletion controls

What holds it back

  • Premium coach availability varies by age and region
  • No built-in GPS on Fitbit Air
  • Power users get less training depth than Garmin or Polar
